I think the last 10 years have produced more questions than answers when it comes to the impact technology has on our lives and unfortunately, educators have largely avoided answering these questions. It is my hope that this little project can help start a conversation about what changes need to take place inside and outside of out classrooms.

While it is impossible to predict the future, we simply have to observe the present because it is all around us. Generation-Y has been in the workforce for much of this decade and their world is dramatically different than the world of the Baby Boomers who are teaching kids today.

It is my belief that Gen-Y is the “tip of the spear” and whoever comes next will likely bring with them an exponential expansion of their lifestyle.

In other words, traditionally-minded educators need to recognize that like it or not, technological progress and the change it brings will erode their value and credibility.

We are wrapping up Decade 1 in the 21st Century and if we don’t adapt and adjust our methods, Decade 2 will wrap us up.
